Russia Day, also known as the ‘Day of Adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of RSFSR’, is the unofficial national day of the Russian Federation and is celebrated as a public holiday in Russia. It commemorates the formal adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation on June 12, 1990. This declaration signaled Russia’s assertion of independence from the former Soviet Union. On Russia Day, state awards are announced to honor deserving citizens, and various events and activities take place across the country to celebrate Russian culture, heritage, and national identity.
