Revolution Day (Algeria)

Algeria’s Revolution Day is a public holiday commemorating the start of the war of independence against France in 1954. Beginning in 1830, for 130 years, France committed cultural genocide against Algeria, destroying the country’s 300 year Ottoman history and cultural landscape. Approximately 1.5 million Algerians were killed and many more were displaced in the eight year battle for independence.
