Red Cross Month

Red Cross Month start in March 1943, US President Franklin D Roosevelt instigated Red Cross Month to honour the volunteers who support the mission of the Red Cross. The Red Cross is a volunteer based Not For Profit organisation whose mission statement reads:

‘The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.’

Primarily, the Red Cross’s role is to assist in times of crisis around the world. They organise blood donations, have programs for veterans and their families and support impoverished peoples.
