Mithuna Sankranti begins

Also called ‘Raja Parba’ and ‘Mithuna Sankramanam’, this four-day Hindu celebration marks the transit of the sun into Mithuna (Gemini), the start of the agricultural year, the first rains and the menstrual period of Bhudevi (the Goddess Earth), wife of Lord Vishnu and is celebrated throughout India. In Odisha, Eastern India it is celebrated as Raja Sankranti, a four-day festival that is renowned as the only festival in the world to celebrate womanhood and menstruation.
