International Day of Human Fraternity At the core of many belief systems is the recognition that all humanity is ‘in this together’ – that we have more in common than differences. The UN created this day in 1999 from the initiative of the United Nations Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace, which serves as the universal mandate for the international community to encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.
