Cambodia Independence Day

Cambodia Independence Day, observed on November 9th, commemorates the country’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1953. The central festivities take place in Phnom Penh, particularly at the Independence Monument, although celebrations also occur in various provinces across Cambodia. On this significant day, leaders and representatives from state organizations and public departments gather to participate in formal ceremonies presided over by the King of Cambodia. These ceremonies typically include the raising of the national flag and the lighting of the memorial torch. Throughout the country, state palaces are adorned with slogans and lights to mark the occasion, and a grand fireworks display takes place along the Chaktomuk River. Cambodia Independence Day is a time for Cambodians to reflect on their nation’s history, honor those who fought for independence, and celebrate the country’s sovereignty and resilience.
