Chrysanthemum Day (Japan)

Chrysanthemum Day, also known as the Double Ninth Festival, is an annual observance in Japan, forming one of the five seasonal festivals. Celebrated on the 9th day of the 9th month, it signifies the peak of activity, as odd numbers are considered highly active and 9 is the ultimate among them. People mark the occasion by adorning their homes with chrysanthemum flowers and sharing sake with each other, often with chrysanthemum petals floating on the drink. Originating in 910 CE with the Japanese Imperial Court’s inaugural chrysanthemum show, these flowers symbolize longevity and eternal youth, holding great significance as auspicious symbols in Japanese culture.
