Anniversary of the Apology to members of the Stolen Generations in Australia is the Anniversary of the 2008 formal apology by the Australian federal government to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly to the Stolen Generations whose lives were blighted by past policies of forced child removal and assimilation. Many of Australia’s finest people have been Stolen Generation members and their descendants. Survivors of these policies and their descendants are statistically some of the most disadvantaged people in Australia. We recognise the trauma but also the healing, the resilience and the valued contributions they have made and continue to make, and we mourn with them the loss and grief these policies caused.
