Sette Giugno (Malta)

Sette Giugno in Malta is a national holiday commemorating the uprising of the Maltese people on June 7, 1919, against the British administration. This significant event in Maltese history was sparked by social and economic grievances and resulted in a violent clash between British troops and the Maltese populace. Tragically, four Maltese individuals lost their lives, and fifty were injured during the uprising. These events played a pivotal role in galvanizing support for Malta’s right to self-government, ultimately leading to the granting of self-government to the Maltese people in 1921. Sette Giugno is observed annually in Malta to honor the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and social justice.
